FYI: NJ’s First Journo-Coder Hackathon

And it will be taking place at Montclair State University, less than a Garden State Parkway exit away from TvB’s offices. Hack Jersey is being sponsored by New Jersey News Commons, an MSU initiative to reprogram our local news industry and led by hometown hero Debbie Galant.

The focus of the hackathon is to plug journalism into technology to “create an original app, data visualization, or new media to benefit the public”. There’s extra credit for projects relevant to “the state of New Jersey and/or Superstorm Sandy.”

The hackathon kickoffs on Friday January 25 and final presentations will be made early Sunday afternoon. We’ve heard there’s already about 50 hackers who’ve registered, but there’s still time to join the event.
