No, I’m not attending.
But I am soaking up this VoIP trade show’s ambiance remotely by dipping into tweets, blog posts, and video snippets.
At past VoIP conferences—it’s frankly been a few years since I walked those aisles—there was a divide between vendors selling their enterprises wares and service providers with their service offerings.
ITExpo is instead a mashup of companies from both sides of the wire.
Of course, the cloud has much to do with this blurring of the lines.
So at ITExpo, you’ll find the PBX and premises-based enterprise communication vendors (that’s you Avaya and Cisco), open source telephony (found at a colocated Asterix sub-conference), surviving VoIP CLECs (glad to see you here, Cbeyond), traditional carriers (AT&T, Paetec, Windstream), a sprinkling of WISPs ( Towerstream, a WiMAX pioneer), SIP endpoint makers (snom, allWorx, Polycom), VoIP gateway and media component players (Adtran, Acculab, AudioCodes), ….
Yikes, this is getting long. It’s like every telecom company I’ve ever written about or spoken to over my technology writing career.
And there’s an entire mini conference on cloud telephony that has attracted players more familiar to Technoverse readers, including Voxeo and onSIP.
I’m juggling a few assignments, as always, but I will keep an eye on ITExpo and let you know what I spot.
