NJ’s Answer to Groupon: PromoVerse’s Location-based Deal Finder

Can consumers keep straight another Groupon-clone in their short-term shopping memory? NJ-based PromoVerse has plans to enter the small business deal market with a geo-aware mobile app. This Gardens State startup is purely focused on small biz.

The model is straight forward. Based on their current location, shoppers find discounts and other promotions at nearby food, clothing, beauty, and health stores. When they show up to claim their deal, they then scan a QR code–using either an iPhone or an Android gadget–to earn points and ultimately VIP invites to special events.

So what do businesses get? PromoVerse’s Kyle Marino told me (via email) that they “offer custom plans based on how many promotions to run in addition to giving businesses an Android Tablet to generate their QR Code which will log and track any redemption scanned”.

With the customer’s deal scanned into PromoVerse’s database, a small retailer can learn where shoppers are coming from–the GPS location reveals this–and what the strongest promotions are.

PromoVerse’s worthy goal, according to Marino, is to get Jersey-ites shopping locally rather than in a big rectangular warehouse.

The (free) app is set to launch April 28. And for the first 90-days businesses can sign up for a free PromoVerse promotion.
